Having failed to blackmail Captain Dickerson into playing along, Black knew he had limited time before the older man sent someone after him and Starr.

Yet that wasn't his biggest concern.

With the press conference, Dickerson had shown that he didn't care if he instigated civil war today. That worried Black because it meant the experiments were further along than he had realized. Yes, Junxion had shown him the plans for the inhibitor bracelet that the Silent City wanted to produce. The City knew something of Dickerson's plans and was working on a solution. But they didn't have it nailed down yet and Black feared they may have run out of time. Dickerson might be ready for war today, and if that was the case, the psypaths were in trouble.

With that knowledge gnawing on his mind, Black grew impatient waiting for Starr and the twins to return. They needed to leave the mall and find a more suitable hiding place, one they could use long-term to plan out their strategy. As the minutes stretched and his unconscious worry that he'd disgusted Starr grew too great to handle, he decided he needed to get away from the scene of the crime. Feeling dirty, he left the store and headed back to the mall restrooms.

In the alcove of the restrooms he paused, surveying the scene. At the edge of the alcove where it opened into the main body of the mall was an information kiosk. An elderly woman was using it while a dark-skinned man looked on from over her shoulder. A few feet away another man knelt, head down, as he tied his shoelaces. Black studied the threesome for a moment before continuing on into the restroom.

It looked empty once again, but he walked the length, checking each stall just to be sure. Then he returned to the door and put his back to the wall just behind where the door would swing open.

It did so a minute later. As soon as the door completed its inward swing Black kicked it, sending it slamming shut. He didn't wait for it to close; he surged forward, hooking his left arm around the neck of the man who'd entered and pressing his gun to the man's head.

"You saw me," Sundhill muttered with disgust.

"You're not very good at undercover," Black replied. He herded Sundhill deeper into the restroom. "Are the rest of them following?" he demanded, pressing the barrel of the gun deeper against the other man's temple.

Sundhill grunted in discomfort. "I brought them but I told them to wait in the parking lot." He raised his hands. "I'm carrying one in a butt holster. It's my only weapon."

Black found the gun and tucked it into his own pants. "Don't move or I'll shoot you and prop your body on a toilet." He released Sundhill cautiously. When the blond remained motionless Black quickly frisked him for other weapons.

"I told you I only have the one gun," Sundhill muttered.

"You'd do the same in my position."
